Anti-Bias and Anti-Discriminatory Practice
This course can be either 1 or 2 day depending on the requirements of participants. The course covers all issues with regard to anti-bias and anti-discriminatory practice as well as the impact on participant's role within the work place. You will look at all current legislation and parliamentary acts that impact upon this area of work.
Autism
This is a short course giving information on the triad of autistic impairments, their identification, assessment and diagnosis. It offers strategies for intervention and looks at partnership with parents.
Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
This is a 2 day certified course which covers essential information for food handling. It is an important requirement for many people in a childcare setting and ensures good practice as well as promoting health education for children and young people.
Carpet Drama
This short course explores the role of drama and the children's use of imagination in the early years setting. Participants will discuss props and ways of extending imaginative activities. You will look at how you can use a carpet drama session to extend all areas of child development and how this links to the Foundation Stage. Ideas for types of carpet drama, preparing for carpet drama, props and resources, the adult role and encouraging all children to develop their own ideas will also be covered.
Child Protection
This is a basic introduction course for anyone working with children and young people. It's objectives are:
- To help participants be aware of their own feelings and attitudes.
- To define what is child abuse, and know how to recognise it.
- To give an understanding of the Children Act and of the concept of significant harm.
- To explain Child Protection and the roles of different agencies.
- To help participants understand how to make a referral.
Construction Play
This short course explores the value of construction in the early years setting. Participants will examine different types of materials, resources and ideas for construction as well as discussing the benefits of these activities to children's all round development. Links with the Foundation Stage will also be discussed. This is also a practical, hands-on session.
Inclusive Practice
This course can be either 1 or 2 days depending on the requirements of participants. You will explore the implications of inclusive practice within the early years or care setting, looking at legislative requirements for inclusion and practice as well as reviewing and developing your current and future practice.
Making Stuff
During this course participants will look at a variety of creative materials in the early years setting, including collage and fabrics for example. You will look at how this links to the Foundation Stage and the benefits to children's holistic development. Other areas that will be discussed and explored are the child and adult role in this type of activity, equipment and resources. Each participant will have the opportunity to be involved in a practical hands-on training session creating a whole range of ideas for different types of activities for use with children.
Managing Change
Participants on this course will examine how organizational change impacts on the people at work - effects on morale, motivation and performance etc. The course looks at developing the positive side of change, involving people in the change, dealing with teams and individuals, planning for the future etc.
Observation Techniques
This 1 day course will able participants to consider a diverse range of observation techniques that can be used within the early years setting, for example sociograms, check lists and tracking. This course enables participants to review and evaluate observations with a view to ensuring that effective methods are used for future planning of work with young children.
Partnership with Parents
This course looks at the legislative requirements for working in partnership with parents and will consider practical steps, for example effective communication and conflict resolution.
Puppet Making
During this course participants will look at the value and use of puppets in the early years setting. The trainer will explore with participants the links with the use of puppets and the Foundation Stage, and the benefits to children's all round development. Other areas that will be discussed and explored are the child and adult role in this type of activity, equipment and resources. Each participant will have the opportunity to make some puppets and will be given a whole range of ideas for different types of puppets and their use.
Risk Assessment in the Early Years / Care Environment
This course can run over 1 or 2 days depending on specific requirements. The course considers risk assessment needs for any early years setting and is an important requirement for people working within an early years setting as it ensuring good practice and promotes health and safety within a setting.
Safer Moving and Handling in the Early Years / Care Environment
This course can run over 1 or 2 days depending on specific requirements. The course considers safer moving and handling within the early years or care environments and is an important requirement for people working within these settings as it ensures good practice a it covers Health & Safety issues when moving objects, materials or clients, for example.
Story Props
This short course looks at the use of story props with young children. It explores story props and their value in an early years setting as well as looking at how this can be linked with the Foundation Stage. Participants will be able to make their own set of props to link to a story, song or rhyme. During the course you will look at ways in which areas of children's development can be supported by using story props as well as discussing and exploring the adult role in this type of activity.
Supervisory Skills for Managers
This course introduces participants to the diverse issues involved in supervisory management and helps to make the change from staff member to Manager as smooth as possible. The workshop covers all the essential elements of managing staff from which both an inexperienced manager can develop their skills to become a highly competent manager, and an experience one can further sharpen and enhance their skills. The course includes purpose and styles of supervision, allocating work, agreeing objectives, monitoring progress and providing feedback.
Time Management
This practically focused time management training programme will deliver the latest techniques usable by anyone wishing to improve their effectiveness in organising their work to make the very best use of time. The programme is for anyone with a broad range of different tasks to juggle, as part of their day-to-day role, who need to improve their productivity. Appropriate for those in management or non-management roles alike.
Under Three's Curriculum
This course looks at the recent Government initiative, Birth to 3 Matters. Participants will discuss and evaluate areas such as "a strong child", "a skilful communicator", "a competent learner" and "a healthy child". This course will be of benefit to anyone working with under 3s, in either a formal or informal setting.
Working with Gifted Children
This short course offers participants the opportunity to consider the implications and practice of working with children who are deemed gifted. Activities for gifted children will also be discussed.
